Silent Night is a quiet but powerful hymn. It is symbolic of Jesus Himself, who came as an innocent, gentle Babe, and who bore, during his earthly lifetime, an attitude of gentleness, forgiveness and love for all people.
God is not a God of hate, nor a Lord who dispenses grace at random, but a God of pure love who loves each one of us in ways that we simply cannot fathom.
Verse 3 describes and identifies who Christ really is: “Son of God, love’s pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace. Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.”
Before Jesus came there was no “redeeming grace,” but now that He is here, grace is ours simply for the asking. He was “Lord at Thy birth” and He remains so this Christmas.
Is it time for you to receive “the Son of God, love’s pure light?” I pray that, if you have not already done so, you will accept the gift of His great love this Christmas.
Merry Christmas! Pastor Jim.
