Life, for any of us, is not a straight line from start to finish.

We bump along sometimes; we have our good days and our bad as we move through this thing called life.

Despite our faith, we sometimes hit a really bad streak and we can’t seem to get beyond it. Not understanding, we blame ourselves–we wail, moan and cry, taking the blame for everything, distraught with grief, believing things will never change.

That’s a dangerous state to be in. That’s the time you might begin to blame God for your trouble, instead of reaching out to Him for help.

The Psalmist, David, found himself in a similar situation, but he did not flee from the Lord. Rather, he cried out for help (Psalm 51: 12), saying, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

He then looked beyond his current problem. He took responsibility for his actions, then looked ahead to days of restoration and new hope.

It is right to call out to the Lord when you find yourself in the depths of despair. It is good to confess your failings to Him. He will hear; He will answer. He will help you find your way through the mess you are in.
