Your reputation is important to you, or at least it should be. Many people say they don’t care what others think of them, but no one really wants ill spoken of them, do they?

It’s up to you to guard your reputation and one way to do so is to be very careful of what you say, and to whom you say it.

If someone shares something with you in confidence, be very careful not to blab it all over town.

In the book of Proverbs (25: 9-10) Solomon put it this way: “If you argue your case with a neighbor, do not betray another man’s confidence, or he who hears it may shame you and you will never lose your bad reputation.”

In other words, a secret is only a secret when it is shared with no one. Sharing another’s deepest thoughts will surely come back to bite you, and that will hurt, so be wise and keep silent. Pastor Jim.
