Prayer is the lifeline by which we communicate with God, but so many times our focus is a little fuzzy.

There’s nothing wrong with praying about that new car you’re thinking of buying, nothing wrong with asking God to intervene in that awkward situation with your sister-in-law.

God WANTS to hear from you, on these and all other matters, but we shouldn’t lose sight of the real purpose of prayer.

That purpose is to draw you closer to Him, to enable you to understand the mind and will of God and to bring you to maturity in Christ.

Paul wrote in II Thessalonians 1: 11-12, “We constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.”

The focus of our prayers should always be God, not us, not our needs or those of our friends.

By glorifying God, the door swings open to Him, enabling Him to enter in and bring us to fullness in Him. Pastor Jim.
