Are you sure that’s what you heard? Really? Or is it just what you THINK you heard?

How many arguments have been started, how many friendships destroyed, by one person simply misunderstanding the words of another?

We all do it. Sometimes we only listen with one ear.

We’re daydreaming instead of paying close attention or preparing our own response, but we aren’t fully focused on what is being said, so we miss the point.

What we think we heard isn’t really what was said, or what was meant.

James, in his book (James 1:19-20) offers this: “My dear brothers (and sisters), take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.”

Think about that, and the next time someone is speaking–listen up. Pastor Jim.
