“Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.” Who can forget this great old lyric by the Carpenters? Rainy days are necessary though. We need rain to water those new tomatoes you just put in; you need rain to help germinate the grass seed for your new lawn. Having it done naturally frees you up to do something else, so rain can be a very good thing, unless, of course, it interferes with your own precious plans. Then we curse and fuss and feel abused because of it. Take heart: the rain will pass, the sun will come out in a day or two, then watch the result of this beneficial soaking. It’s something like the discipline that God exercises over us. Hebrews 12: 7 says that we should, “endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?” Most of us, if Dad was tough but fair, as better for that discipline. Most of us will be better for today’s rain as well. Enjoy the rain; it is a blessing. Pastor Jim.
