Listening is the easy part.

You attend worship. The sermon is inspiring, filled with examples of the actions of others, heroes of the faith, who heard God’s word and responded.

“Wow,” you think, “Those people did some remarkable things!”

You read your morning devotional. The words are clear, understandable and inspiring. They offer guidance as to how you can use your faith in service to others. Great reading!

And so it goes: you worship, study, read, hear the Word of God, but fail to put it into practice.

“I can’t do THAT you think. I have other things to do. “Maybe that person lived a special kind of life, but not me!”

Oh, yes, but it is you. God calls each of us to serve Him in some way.

The book of James (1:22) teaches against living a “sidelines faith.” It says, “Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”

If you think the Word of God is for others, but not for you, you are sadly mistaken. His Word should lead you to action.

God, in His love for you, has a personal ministry for you to perform, a ministry He calls you to, so get off the sidelines. Don’t let Him down. Pastor Jim.
