I hope you had the opportunity to attend worship yesterday, despite the extreme heat and humidity. If you did, that’s great, but it is only the beginning…

Unfortunately, some people see church attendance as an obligation; they come and sit but don’t fully immerse themselves in the worship experience.

They are like the man who went to the beach but only put his feet into the water. Later, he told his friends he had “gone swimming.”

In order for it to be beneficial, worship needs to be fully experienced. The focus of a service is, generally, the sermon and that’s where too many people put their mind in neutral, daydreaming about what they will do for the afternoon, rather than listening to God’s Word proclaimed and expounded.

The writer of Hebrews (4:2) cautions against this “For we have also had the Gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard it did not combine it with faith.”

Being at worship is better than staying home, but it is your involvement in the service that will help to build your faith. Then, when you hear the sermon, you can relate it to your life and gain its full value, thus building faith even more. As this cycle continues we grow in the knowledge of the Lord, making us better able to handle the cares of life.

Have faith in God and He will bless your life. Pastor Jim.
