“At least she means well.” That’s a familiar phrase, isn’t it, one used to excuse the person who sometimes speaks or acts without thinking something through.

You’re stuck with the result, whatever that might be, but your friends try to comfort you with “at least she means well.” All the while you’re thinking it would have just been better if this “friend” had kept her nose out of your business. Who cares if she meant well–she messed things up and now you have to deal with the fallout.

Whoa! Slow down. Take a breath. She did, after all, mean well, even if she did make a mess of things. In reality it’s probably no big deal, so cut your friend some slack.

James 2:12 teaches us to ‘speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, because judgement without mercy will be shown to anyone who is not merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgement.”

Be merciful, because God loves mercy. Pastor Jim.
