Psalm 34: 12 says, “Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days”
That covers most of us, doesn’t it? Don’t we all want to live long, prosperous lives and die quietly in our sleep?
How do we get there?
Keep reading: Psalm 34: 13-14 “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.”
That’s a good start, and it shouldn’t be difficult to only speak the truth, while at the same time refraining from saying nasty, harmful things in the interest of “being clear.”
But to continue, (Psalm 34: 14), “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”
We don’t achieve a pleasant life and death by letting the world happen around us. It is necessary to actively seek peace, for yourself and those around you. And while you are seeking peace you must, at the same time, avoid doing evil–within your family, but also in the wider world.
You want to see “many good days?” So do we all, and this Psalm provides a good starting point to work from. Pastor Jim.
